Why new graphics on packs of cigarretes? (rant)?

Apparently starting next year there will be graphic pictures on packs of cigarettes showing the results of smoking to "increase awareness". First off, I am not a smoker. But how does this make any sense? No one in the last twenty years has thought that smoking was fine for your health, and if they are going to do this on cigarettes, why arent they doing it on alcohol and fast food? Why do I even bother paying my taxes when this is what it gets spent on?
